This Sunday, June 6, a large group of Harvard children ranging in ages from 6 to 14 will be on the Town Common united in purpose. Their goal is to raise money to help two of their friends, 5-year old Meg James and 6-year old Charlotte O’Shea, who are suffering from debilitating forms of cancer. After asking themselves “what can we do to help?” they brainstormed and came up with the idea to have a lemonade stand. Twelve-year-old Sarah vandeVaart said, “I am happy and thankful to do this. I want to do something that will make it easier for the family.”
The group has advertised the stand all over town and has been inundated with offers to help. In addition to lemonade, there will be baked goods, bracelets, and candy. The lemonade stand will be open, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All the profits will be used to assist the girls’ families with travel and incidental expenses. Anyone interested in helping or making a donation is invited to contact Charlene vandeVaart at cvaneckl@charter.net.
