Louisa Roof of Woodside Road was the grand-prize winner in the 20th annual Ducky Wucky River Race on May 8. Roof’s ducky beat out nearly 5,000 other yellow rubber quackers, entitling Roof to airfare, two nights lodging, and dinner for two anywhere in the world. Past winners have gone to places like Bali, Rio de Janeiro, and Paris.
The Ducky Wucky River Race is a charity event sponsored by the Ayer Rotary Club, and is held each year following the Apple Blossom Festival. All proceeds from the race benefit the various charities supported by the Ayer Rotary Club, which serves the communities of Ayer, Harvard, Shirley and Devens. The club supports food pantries, high school scholarships, youth programs, the worldwide eradication of polio led by Rotary International, and many other causes. The Rotary is supported in the Ducky Wucky River Race by sponsorships from Gervais Ford, North Middlesex Savings Bank, the Bull Run Restaurant, and the IC Federal Credit Union.
Besides the coveted dinner for two anywhere in the world, dozens of other prizes were awarded to runners up. At right is a list of the top prizes. All winners will be contacted by the Ayer Rotary Club with information on how to redeem their prizes.
