This Friday marks the opening of Bromfield’s theatre season as the Drama Society presents Michael Frayn’s fast-paced farce,
Alarms and Excursions.
Similar in style and theme to Frayn’s popular Noises Off, the eight short comedies that comprise the piece show how technology and miscommunication infect our daily lives.
In the first scene, two couples embark on a dinner party that is doomed to failure as, one by one, labor-saving devices and even furniture become hostile. “Look Away Now” shows passengers who ignore the airline’s safety lecture at their own peril. Glasnost presents a political speech that is sabotaged by a harassed teleprompter operator. As the main characters in each vignette try to maintain their composure, outside forces frustrate their every move.
The ensemble cast of 25 students has prepared a comic production full of technological advances which disrupt the gracious and genteel process of living, with hilarious results.
Performances take place at the Bromfield School on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 6, 7, 13, and 14, at 8 p.m.
Tickets, available at the door, are priced at $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 978-456-4152, ext. 557.
