The Bromfield Drama Society will present Noel Coward’s comedy
Hay Fever in Cronin Auditorium on Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2, 7, and 8, at 8 p.m. The play is double-cast.
The action takes place in Cookham, England, at the home of the Bliss family. Each member of the four-person household, Judith, David, Simon, and Sorel, invites a friend down for the weekend without informing the others. Conflict arises as the guests arrive.
“Craziness ensues when all the characters meet each other,” said senior Tyler Alderson, who plays David in the show. “It’s a very different kind of play, with a new style of humor.”
With the loss of many actors from the class of 2007, the drama society has a new dynamic. Six of the 18 cast members are freshman, and five are sophomores. Only three this year are seniors in contrast to the 14 seniors in last year’s fall production.
“Younger actors bring new talent to the whole program,” said senior Jon Olsson, who plays David in the second cast. “We all get along because theater brings out the best in people, so it’s easy to connect.”
Freshman Patience Morrow is new to the drama society this year.
“It’s a different experience from middle school drama,” she said, “but I feel very comfortable with everyone in the cast. I have lots of friends in the show.”
“There was never a sense of ‘You’re a freshman,’” Alderson said of his own past experience as a freshman in the drama society. “The older kids who had been doing it for a while calmed me down.”
Olsson agreed. “Before the show we have a bonding experience warming up together and preparing mentally for it, and last year that really came from the senior actors.” He added, “We have to take that responsibility this year.”
Tickets, priced at $10 for adults and $8 for students, will be available at the door. For more information visit the drama society’s website at www.harvardtheatre.org.
